I was quite fortunate to win this award last year and to attend the lovely dinner ceremony, and what I remember most vividly is thanking Ms. Audrey at the end for her kindness, to which she replied “just pass it forward and I will be happy”.
I am pleased to stand before you today and announce that I have been involved with UNRWA-Jordan for the past three years with an aim to establish a basic health clinic in a refugee camp, north of the city (Gaza refugee camp). Thanks to the amazing award I received last year, I was able to use some of it to secure revenue for the clinic and establish preliminary negotiations to commence development.
There is an increase in social, political and cultural challenges as a result of increased globalization; this in turn has tremendous effects on the progression of our health care system and policies. The role of nurse practitioners is continuously changing, and nurses are frequently pushing boundaries, challenging roles and defining ethics in relation to the health care in Canada and abroad. Thanks to your sincere efforts and generosity I am now able to complete the NP and gain the enhanced training, knowledge and leadership skills to deal with these challenges and provide an enhanced quality of care.
