I am honoured to have been selected once again to receive the Audrey’s Place Foundation Graduate Nursing Scholarship. Your financial support throughout my master’s degree has been a real blessing for me.
As I mentioned in my application, studying for the first time in english has been a challenge and has entailed many additional hours of work. I am lucky that I was able to dedicate the time necessary to improving my english skills, I will continue to pursue these endeavours during the 2011-2012 academic year.
Your award allows me to avoid significant financial debt, which considerably relieves some of the stress associated with being a student. Being free of debt upon graduation will allow me to immediately resume the volunteer activities in which I was previously involved. It also allows me to take on additional scholarly activities; for example, I am able to take the time necessary to adapt one of my course papers and submit it for publication in an academic nursing journal.
After the completion of my program, planned for April 2012, I am aiming at returning on a mission with Doctors Without Borders, to share the knowledge and skills I will have acquired during my graduate degree with the volunteer team and in communities in underdeveloped areas of the world. Afterward, I hope to obtain a position in advanced practice nursing in oncology. I aspire to a role in which I, along with my colleagues and my organization, will develop partnerships with oncology nurses in underdeveloped countries to share our knowledge, and ultimately increase health of those populations.
